Hearing test for children
Interactive hearing test:Which animals can you hear? This test, based on normalized tones, is good for initial diagnosis of hearing problems! This is a simplified version of a more comprehensive hearing test that has been modified especially for children. Even though it does not provide exact information about hearing problems, it motivates the children to be aware of their hearing. If each child is tested individually under the supervision of the teacher, the test is even suitable as an initial diagnosis of hearing problems. (The animal sounds used are normalized.) Sequence:The computer has to be calibrated first of all (the right volume has to be set). It has to be ensured that the reference tone is adjusted to “no longer audible”. Younger students in particular will need help with this. Or the teacher calibrates one computer beforehand and the students all do the test at that computer. To answer, the students have to click “Can hear it” or “Cannot hear it”.At the end there is an evaluation.Information and ideas:Poor hearing can be a reason for reading and spelling difficulties. A hearing test may give the first indication of hearing problems. After the test the teacher can discuss possible causes of hearing damage with the students or talk about necessary changes of conduct and possible protective measures.Relevant for teaching:Hearing damage/hearing impairment How hearing works Games to train the senses
