The Experimento Game was developed by the Siemens Stiftung in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT.The goal of the Experimento Game together with the associated teaching methods is to increase the students’ awareness of the complexity of environment-related judgments, point out to them the necessary conditions for making a fair judgment, and create an understanding for others’ judgments. They should become aware of their own interests and be able to analyze them. The digital game opens up new possibilities because the players are put in a dual role: First, they enter into the game world and the events taking place within it; second, they actively intervene in the events, therefore embracing them as their own.

Handout for the Experimento Game
Handout:Explanation of teaching methods for the Experimento Game for teachers The handout introduces the contents of the game and includes explanations on the dilemma situations in the game. It also answers the question as to why a computer game has been developed for teaching. In addition, the handout addresses the relevance to the curriculum and the acquisition of skills. It also lists the technical requirements for the game. The appendix to the handout contains some suggestions for worksheets with tasks.

Experimento Game (English)
The Experimento Game was developed by the Siemens Stiftung in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Digital Media Technology IDMT (Fraunhofer-Institut für Digitale Medientechnologie IDMT). It is a point-and-click adventure. The goal of the game is to increase the students’ awareness of the complexity of environment-related judgments, point out the necessary conditions for making a fair judgment, and create an understanding for others’ judgments. With the help of the game, students should become aware of their own interests and be able to analyze them. The teaching method included in the media package clarifies the goal and contents of the game, establishes the relevance to the curriculum, provides supporting worksheets, and specifies the technical requirements.

Sie sollen sich ihrer eigenen Interessenlage bewusst werden und diese analysieren können. Das digitale Spiel eröffnet neue Möglichkeiten, denn es versetzt die Spielenden in eine Doppelrolle: Sie rezipieren einerseits die Spielwelt und die in ihr ablaufenden Ereignisse, andererseits greifen sie aktiv in das Geschehen ein und machen es sich damit zu eigen.

The rainforest role-playing game: Protect or use?
Teaching ideas:Instructions for a role-playing game that makes it possible for the students to experience the dangers for tropical rainforests.The students should grapple with the reasons for rainforest destruction. The teacher first introduces the topic of rainforests in general and the consequences of their destruction. Then the students should discuss the causes of destruction. They can do so by putting on a fictitious talk show on the topic of “Rainforest – protect or use?" or by role-playing a “UN mini-summit." The students appear as representatives with different interests and defend their points of view.Tips are provided to help the students prepare the content. The game situation is briefly explained. Was ist Ba’Game?
In Kirkwall, der Hauptstadt der Orkney-Inseln, wird zweimal im Jahr Massenfußball gespielt. Am 25. Dezember und am 1. Januar treten die Männer der Südstadt (Uppies) gegen die der Nordstadt (Doonies) an. Das Spiel beginnt um Punkt 13 Uhr beim Glockenschlag. Der weitere Verlauf ist ungewiss. Das Ba' Game kennt keine Regeln. Es gibt zwei Mannschaften und zwei ungewöhnliche Tore. Das eine ist das Hafenbecken, das andere eine ganz normale Hausfassade. Die Mannschaft, der es gelingt, den Ball ins eigene Tor zu bringen, gewinnt.

Information and ideas:This is how the game is played:Different materials like sand, rice, dried peas, pebbles or stones, flour etc. are filled into empty film containers, two containers for each material. Now the players have to match the pairs by identifying the material inside the containers by shaking The whole game can be played with teams of two partners as well. In UTOPOLIS – AUFBRUCH DER TIERE schlüpfen Spieler in die Rolle ihres Lieblingstiers und begeben sich gemeinsam mit 24 anderen Spielern auf die spannende Reise in die untergegangene Stadt Utopolis. Jedes Individuum muss seinen Teil zum Gelingen der einzelnen Etappen beitragen. Dabei bestimmen die Spieler selbst die Regeln der Gemeinschaft und organisieren sich nach demokratischen Prinzipien. Über ein Regelsystem kann jeder Spieler Vorschläge und Gesetze einbringen, über die abgestimmt wird und die für alle Mitspieler verbindlich gelten. Nur wenn die verschiedenen Spielcharaktere mit ihren unterschiedlichen Stärken und Fähigkeiten entschlossen zusammenarbeiten, können die Spieler die gefährliche Reise meistern.

Big-data practical example – Virtual gaming worlds like Pokémon Go (information sheet)
Information sheet:The text uses the example of the online game Pokémon Go to discuss how virtual gaming worlds make use of the real world, what data the players transmit, what value this has, and who might be interested in the data.Computer games normally consist of a completely virtual world: Everything is programmed and exists only as code. In contrast, Pokémon Go is a new type of online game that uses the real world as a gaming backdrop and combines a virtual world including fantasy creatures with reality. For this purpose, the developer acquires and uses information such as extensive geodata of the players. The data can be used for advertising purposes, data profiles can be created, and the data can be sold. What is concerning is that the game manufacturers do not reveal how they use the data. The users are thus deprived of sovereignty over their own data.
