A5 Properties of solar cells (student instructions)

Experimentation instructions for Experimento | 10+:
Background information on the content and practical information on conducting the experiment "Properties of solar cells - Voltage, current and power". This experiment comprises six subexperiments.

The experiment comprises six subexperiments:
· First investigations with the solar cell
· Short-circuit current and no-load voltage at different distances from the lamp
· What happens when you connect solar cells in series or in parallel?
· Current and voltage with solar cells connected in series and in parallel
· How do solar cells connected in series or in parallel behave when shaded?
· Optimizing the power output of solar cells

For each subexperiment, the students are first provided with an overview of the materials to be used and safety information. This overview is followed by the detailed, step-by-step instructions for conducting the experiment. Afterwards, the students are asked to note their observations. Specific questions are used to guide the students as they analyze the results of the experiments. At the end, the students are asked probing questions related to the experiment (an answer sheet is available for teachers).

Notes:

Guía del experimento:
Información general e indicaciones prácticas sobre la realización del experimento "A5 Las propiedades de las células solares - Tensión, corriente y potencia?. Consta de seis experimentos parciales.



El experimento consta de seis experimentos parciales:
· Conocimientos básicos de una la célula solar
· La intensidad de un cortocircuito y la tensión en vacío al colocar la lámpara a diferentes distancias
· ¿Qué sucede al conectar las células solares en serie o en paralelo?
· La intensidad y la tensión en la conexión en serie y en paralelo de células solares
· ¿Cómo se comportan las células solares conectadas en serie o en paralelo al quedar en la sombra?
· Optimización de la potencia de las células solares

Si se realizan los experimentos parciales para investigar las propiedades eléctricas de las células solares siguiendo el orden que se propone aquí forman una unidad lectiva que sirve en la teoría de la electricidad para verificar experimentando los conocimientos básicos adquiridos. La actualidad del tema la electricidad a partir de la energía solar contribuye seguramente a motivar
a los alumnos y alumnas. Pero también temas como el de las energías renovables y la restructuración de la política energética pueden abordarse muy bien con estos experimentos. Sin embargo, hay que tener en cuenta los conocimientos previos de los alumnos y alumnas.

· Observe las indicaciones de seguridad incluidas en las instrucciones, así como las normas de seguridad vigentes en el colegio.
· Todos los materiales indicados en las instrucciones deberán adquirirse directamente de fuentes comerciales.

Data transmission with LEDs

Researchers at the Fraunhofer Heinrich Hertz Institute in Berlin and at Siemens AG have successfully achieved a data transmission rate of 500 megabits per second (Mbit/s) using a commercially available LED.


This article provides information on the advantages of data transmission with light compared to wireless transmission and shows possible applications.

Information and ideas:
This technology is also applied in the construction of LED miniprojectors that can be integrated into digital cameras or mobile phones. This technology would make it possible, for example, not only to take photos but also to immediately project them on a wall. A small blue laser diode is used for this.
